Visible Mending for Knitwear: Live Zoom Workshop
Visible Mending for Knitwear: Live Zoom Workshop
A relaxed and interactive day-long workshop exploring visible mending techniques for knitwear with Flora Collingwood-Norris, held on zoom. This workshop will guide you through darning and swiss darning, starting with the basics. You will also learn how to tackle holes at the edge of your knitwear and look at ways to make your mending more creative.
Materials will be sent out to you in advance, and will include:
2 knitted fabrics in different weights, one with a ribbed edge
8 colours of darning wool (7m approx per colour)
Graph paper
1 needle
You will need to provide some sewing thread in a colour you can clearly see against white, and scissors.
During the visible mending workshop you will learn what to look for in knitted fabrics, and how to choose materials for your own projects. You’ll be taught different darning techniques for knitwear , including how to darn a hole at an edge of a cuff or hem. You will also learn swiss darning: how to use it for reinforcing threadbare areas and how to use it to repair holes. If there is time, Flora will also show you how to add some pattern into your darning.
Darning and swiss darning are both really useful mending techniques for knitwear and can be used together very effectively and creatively. Learning both ensures you can make the best decisions for repairing your knitwear.
No mending experience or knowledge of knitting necessary. This visible mending workshop suitable for beginners, although some prior experience with any kind of needle work is helpful.
There will be two short breaks and one longer break of 20 minutes during the day. There will also be opportunities to ask questions about your own mending projects.
The workshop will be recorded, and you will be sent a link to it afterwards. You will be able to access the recording for 6 months.
All workshop times are UK time.
Zoom links will be sent one week in advance.
All places reserved on this workshop are non refundable, and it can be very difficult and not necessarily possible to swap dates, so please check your calendar before booking!
If you prefer a shorter workshop, my Introduction to Darning Workshop and Swiss Darning Workshop are both 3 hours long, and cover most of the information this workshop will cover, except for repairing edges.
